BJP defends Smriti Irani, asks 'what is Sonia's qualification?' - Times of India

NEW DELHI: BJP on Wednesday hit back at Congress over Ajay Maken's comments on Smriti Irani's qualifications and questioned Sonia Gandhi's credentials to lead the UPA.

"What is the educational qualification of Sonia Gandhi that she was heading UPA govt?" questioned water resources minister Uma Bharti.

"Sonia Gandhi should tell her MPs not to make such statements," Uma Bharti said.

Yesterday, Congress leader Ajay Maken tweeted, "What a Cabinet of Modi? HRD Minister (Looking after Education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate! Look at her affidavit at ECI site pg 11."

In fact, Ajay Maken's comment has been opposed even by other Congress leaders. "Instead of personal attacks we should focus on issues," said Congress leader Manish Tewari.

In her affidavit before the Election Commission, Irani has stated her last education as "Bachelor of Commerce Part-1, School of Open Learning (Correspondence), University of Delhi-1994."
