Jaguar’s fetching new all-electric 2019 I-Pace will carry a base price of $70,495 when it goes on sale later this year. That number is before any federal or local government incentives, and strategically undercuts its two closest competitors, the $75,700 Tesla Model S 75D and $80,700 Model X 75D, although the Jag’s prices quickly rise as you start adding options. The decked-out I-Pace First Edition, for instance, starts at a significantly higher $86,895.
Unlike the Teslas, however, all I-Pace models come with the same battery pack and powertrain setup: a pair of electric motors making 394 horsepower and a 90-kWh battery pack providing an estimated 240 miles of range. Those numbers apply for all trim levels, which include the base S, the SE, the HSE, and the aforementioned First Edition. A 7-kW onboard charger is standard equipment, and Jaguar says it is working on a program to install a Level 2 home charging system for faster charging times than household outlets can provide.
The I-Pace S is somewhat surprisingly stripped for $70k, doing without features you’d expect at that price such as leather upholstery, a power liftgate, and adaptive cruise control. Of course all of these things are optional, and the $76,845 I-Pace SE and $81,495 HSE add commensurate levels of equipment (Jaguar’s build-your-own tool is live and can be found here). The fully loaded First Edition model is meant to evoke the appearance of the I-Pace concept car and includes special paint options, 20-inch wheels, and several interior trim upgrades.
The first batch of I-Pace models to come to the United States in the second half of this year will be made up of First Edition cars, meaning you might have to wait a bit longer for one of the lower-priced models.
