2019 Mini Cooper Hardtop and Convertible: Retro Refined

Around the turn of the last century, the automotive world experienced a whirlwind of retro cars. One brand after another came up with modern-day re-creations of beloved models of yore, from the Volkswagen New Beetle to the Chevrolet SSR to the Ford Thunderbird, and of course the Chrysler PT Cruiser, which its maker deemed “too cool to categorize.” Aside from the faltering Beetle, only one model has prevailed: BMW's Mini. In fact, what was a single model has morphed into a thriving brand with a lineup that includes droptops, crossovers, and more—something Fiat has tried to emulate with its 500. Mini’s core, however, remains the hatchback or, as the self-consciously quirky brand prefers to call it, the Hardtop 2 Door.
