After you recover from New Year’s Eve festivities, the next party you must not miss is an exhibition hosted by the Scarab Club, Detroit’s premier artists’ gallery and studio.

Tapping private collections and General Motors archives, Scarab members have gathered an extensive collection of conceptual drawings (including those by Peter Brock, seen above and on the program cover below) and scale models created by GM’s best and brightest designers over five decades, starting in 1952. The exhibition covers the seven Corvette production generations and a look at the coming eighth-generation sports car through the eyes of art students. To visualize the mid-engined Corvette that is expected for the 2019 model year, the Scarab Club hosted a competition. Entrants, students from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and Lawrence Technological University in the Detroit suburb of Southfield, are eligible for cash awards.

Two additional attractions: a compilation of Corvette advertising art owned by Detroit photographer Jim Secreto and heretofore unseen Corvette designs penned by a few Ford Motor Company (yes, Ford) designers in their spare time.

The American Dreaming exhibition will run from January 4 through February 19. The Scarab Club is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Club officials will host a reception toasting the exhibit on January 6 at 5:00 p.m. and a gallery talk on January 19 at 6:00 p.m. The Scarab Club is located at 217 Farnsworth Street in Detroit. For additional information visit the Scarab Club’s page on the exhibit or call 313–831–1250.
