Buy an NSX Supercar, and Acura Will Make You a Personalized Movie of It Being Built

2017 Acura NSX originals video

As if taking delivery of Acura’s compelling NSX hybrid weren’t special enough, the automaker is tossing in a compelling and unusual extra: a home movie featuring your very own NSX. The offering is compelling for its novelty, if not for its content, since each movie is spliced together seemingly from similar footage of NSXs that may or may not be yours being built and is only capped with a bespoke shot of your car being dyno tested in Ohio.

Acura said each video covers the spectrum of an NSX’s journey down the birth canal, with allusions to the process’s “precision robotic weld technology, spaceframe construction, zirconium bath, state-of-the-art paint robotics, three-motor sport hybrid power unit, NSX custom hand assembly, and the NSX rolling dynamometer.” There are seven basic versions of the video Acura sends to owners; they mix and match the seven elements listed above to create unique compositions, but every clip we watched on a website set up to show off the videos felt more or less the same. The camera shakes a lot, less as a hint of than a bludgeon for reminding viewers that the NSX is more powerful than a Honda Accord. The assembly process is made to look like the Terminator’s conception, and it’s all very intense and visceral.

Critically, the video’s inclusion of the buyer’s fully spec’d NSX at the end (as well as that car’s serial number at the beginning) lends it that personal touch and makes for a nice perk for buying a car that has lots of neat perks already. Setting aside the NSX’s ability to hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and turn heads even quicker, the cars’ owners each also receive a custom 1:18-scale model of their exact car.

You can watch one of the videos—the one, incidentally, for Jay Leno’s NSX #0003—below:
