Ford is recalling 225,012 F-150 pickups in the U.S. for front brakes that may weaken or fail, the company said Wednesday.
The 2013–2014 F-150 has a master cylinder that can leak brake fluid into the booster and compromise the front brakes. The rears will remain unaffected, Ford says. Only EcoBoost models with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 need their brake master cylinders replaced, and if fluid has leaked, their brake boosters, too. Dealers will start repairs at an unspecified date.
Ford says it knows of nine accidents and one separate injury related to the defect. In April, Ford recalled the 2011–2012 F-150 for transmission problems and the 2016 F-150 in February for airbag sensors.
