In an interview with Automobile released the very same day he ascended to CEO of now-independent Ferrari, Sergio Marchionne—who remains CEO of Fiat-Chrysler—confirmed what had long been expected: The LaFerrari hypercar would get a convertible variant. Dubbed LaFerrari Spider, the top-dog Ferrari is already being shopped to customers.
The off-the-cuff confirmation came in response to Automobile’s probe for info on potential future Ferrari products, including a Dino-like low-cost Ferrari. Marchionne, ever the master of unexpected product announcements, said only that “the only future product connected to LaFerrari is the Spider. Which is no secret since potential customers have already been approached.”
Final details, including photos of the LaFerrari Spider or its specs, are still to come, as are the particulars of how many Ferrari will build. In all likelihood, the number will be quite small, perhaps less than 100. Oh, and it’ll be palpitation-inducing expensive, just like the other LaFerrari spin-off, the FXX K.
