Srinagar: Terrorists launched a massive attack at an Army camp near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir early on Friday, killing at least three Army men and two police personnel.
Earlier reports had claimed that five Army men had been killed.
News agency ANI reported that six terrorists were involved in the attack that took place at a camp of 31 Field Regiment in Mohara in Uri sector of the state's Baramullah district.
Of the six, three terrorists are also reported to have been killed in the ensuing gunbattle.
The entire area has been cordoned off as the firing was still on.
Sources said the casualty figure could go up.
The two policemen, who have been killed, had rushed to the camp after the attack began. A police official of ASI rank is also reported to have been injured in the attack.
The terrorists opened firing at the Army camp early in the morning, in a bid to storm into the camp, but were prevented by Army personnel leading to the gunfight.
The attack came just three days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Srinagar on December 8, ahead of the third phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The state has witnessed a spurt in militant activity as well as infiltration bids in the wake of ongoing polls, especially with record number of people turning out to vote in the first two phase of polls.
