Sikka: Eye on the future



Mumbai, Dec. 4: Infosys, the country's second-largest IT services company, will focus on renewing its core business and entering new segments as part of its growth strategy. The company also did not rule out acquisitions while unveiling its plans in Pune today.


Under the programme, formulated by CEO Vishal Sikka, Infosys will renew existing businesses such as consulting, application development and maintenance and business process management.


On the other hand, it will look to get into new streams such as design thinking and innovation services.


For acquisitions, the Bangalore-based company may tap new areas such as artificial intelligence and automation.


Speaking to analysts, Sikka said Infosys could look at targets in geographies in which it did not have a good presence.


Sikka pointed out that the company was in the early stages of a software-led transformation and was busy "cascading'' the new strategy across its workforce.


For the period ended September 30, the employee count at Infosys was 165,000 and the revenue per employee stood at nearly $53,000.


Sikka said besides strengthening its existing services or getting into newer ones, the objective of the strategy was to increase the revenue per employee in the coming years.


Though the details of the investment in this strategy will be revealed by April 2015, the company hopes to maintain a margin of 25-28 per cent, Sikka added.


One area in which the company sees immense potential is product engineering and design, which will create huge value for clients across industry segments.


"Improving the productivity of people is at the core of these initiatives. We believe in delivering not only a consistent profitable growth but a next-generation services company that could be led not only by revenue growth, but also margins," he said.


One of the areas where Infosys has used its expertise is oil exploration, where the remaining useful life of a field can be determined by using digital oilfield modelling and simulation, Sikka said.
