NEW DELHI: The opposition continued with its protests in Parliament over derogatory remarks made by Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.

Demanding resignation of minister, a united opposition stalled proceedings in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

As soon as Lok Sabha took up question hour, leader of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge said in an apparent sarcasm that it is a privilege that the Prime Minister is present in the House today.

He said as the Prime Minister is himself present in the House, he was insisting on the resignation of Jyoti from the council of ministers for her controversial remarks.

Reacting to Kharge's taunt, BJP members retorted saying Modi has been attending parliamentary proceedings.

Soon, Congress members, joined by Trinamool Congress and MPs from other opposition parties, trooped into the well demanding a reply from the PM.

Brinda Karat questioned the silence of PM on the issue and sought criminal proceedings against the minister. "Why is PM afraid of his own Parliament? Parliament does not run on Twitter, " she said.

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said PM should apologize for making such a person a minister.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti had on Monday asked people of Delhi to chose between a government of Ramzaadon (followers of Ram) or a government of illegitimate people.
