Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar, who was injured on Tuesday night at his residence in the national capital, arrived in Mumbai for treatment.
NCP leaders Praful Patel and Nawab Malik, speaking to mediapersons outside the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, said the NCP chief had sustained a fracture in his right leg after the fall in his Delhi residence on Tuesday around 9 pm.
“He was brought to Mumbai by air ambulance around midnight and is being treated by his doctors at Breach Candy Hospital,” Patel said, adding that a surgery is to be conducted to repair the fracture later today. Pawar would be discharged after five or six days of rest, the leaders said.
They denied that he had been first rushed to Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi.
Following the injury, Pawar was taken to Mumbai by air ambulance. Pawar, 73, suffered injury in his leg and apparently in his back.
His wife Pratibha and daughter Supriya Sule accompanied him from New Delhi to Mumbai.
Pawar, who left Congress and formed Nationalist Congress Party in 1999, is currently a member of Rajya Sabha.
He is a three-time chief minister of Maharashtra and a former Union Minister.
