BJP reacted on Wednesday to Ajay Maken's jibe at Smriti Irani's qualification by asking what Sonia Gandhi's qualification was and advising Congress leaders to shun "their arrogance" and introspect why they lost in the Lok Sabha poll.
"We want to advise Congress leaders that after country's people rejected them in Lok Sabha elections, they should now leave their arrogance behind and introspect," BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
He said the party was defeated in elections due to the "arrogance" of Congress leaders but they are still not ready to leave their arrogance.
"Congress leaders should now stop using abusive words against BJP leaders. Congress should respect the mandate of the people," he said.
Watch: What are Sonia Gandhi's qualifications: Uma Bharti
Coming to the defence of her colleague in Modi Cabinet, firebrand BJP leader and Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation minister Uma Bharti raked up Congress president Sonia Gandhi's qualification.
"I want to ask Madam Sonia Gandhi, what is her qualification?" Bharti tweeted.
"Because she was heading the UPA government, she was giving directions to the government. I want to see her certificate, see how qualified she is. Then the Congress people have the right to ask about the qualifications of Smriti Irani," NDTV quoted Bharti as saying.
Another BJP leader, Santosh Gangwar also trained guns on Sonia to rescue Irani from the onslaught.
"I want to ask Congress how educated is Sonia Gandhi," Gangwar said.

"What a Cabinet of Modi? HRD Minister (looking after education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate! Look at her affidavit at ECI site pg 11," he had tweeted yesterday.
