2018 Jeep Wrangler

The all-new Jeep Wrangler is set to debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. At least that’s what Mike Manley, head of Jeep, told the British publication Auto Express.Besides sharing the new Wrangler’s late November debut date, Manley also revealed key details about the Jeep’s styling with AE, noting that the new Wrangler’s exterior looks will continue to incorporate key Wrangler design elements while also moving the model’s design language forward. From spy pictures we’ve seen, as well as from leaks within FCA, we can confirm that the new body-on-frame SUV will maintain its predecessor’s upright windshield, flared fenders, round headlights, and classic seven-slot grille.

Manley also implied to AE that the new Wrangler will incorporate design details from Jeep’s Easter Safari concepts. We’re partial to the exposed headers and cut roof of the Quicksand concept, as well as the safari-style roof featured on the Switchback concept.

Unsurprisingly, Manley once again confirmed that both a pickup-truck body style and a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain will join the Wrangler lineup in the future. Spy shots of the Wrangler pickup reveal that the model will offer a surprisingly usable rear bed, and the pickup prototype also appeared to have removable panels on its roof. Meanwhile, the hybrid isn’t expected to arrive until after 2020.

With Manley stating to AE that the new Wrangler will be “right on the cusp of production” when it formally gets unveiled at the end of November, it sounds as if the new Jeep could go on sale before the end of the year. We reached out to Jeep for comment about the next-generation Wrangler and will continue to add updates about the new SUV as we glean more information.
