If you’re a fan of high-quality boutique automobiles, chances are you’ve heard of Icon 4×4. It’s a small firm based in Southern California, founded by mad genius and occasional Road & Track contributor Jonathan Ward. Ward has created some pretty wild restomodded trucks in the past, but this may just be our new favorite.

This truck, commissioned at a client’s request, entered Ward’s shop as an unusually clean 1965 Ford crew-cab pickup truck. Like most of Ward’s donor vehicles, this example was rust-free and ready to be restored.

Rather than upgrade the original chassis and drivetrain, Ward’s team swapped in the entire undercarriage from a 2006 Dodge 3500 Mega Cab to take advantage of the modern truck’s power and comfort.

Ward and his team modified the Dodge frame to fit snugly under the body, and from there, they uprated every exterior and interior piece to true Icon standards. The 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six now makes about 700 lb-ft of torque, a huge upgrade over the stock Ford’s output.

Those are just the major changes, though. Ward put together an extensive 25-minute video going over the entire build, down to the very last trim piece. Pull up a chair and watch it below.
