Chevrolet has finally revealed the Nürburgring lap time for its track-ready Camaro ZL1 1LE. The car lapped the Nordschleife in an astonishing 7:16.04, making it 13.56 seconds quicker than the regular ZL1. Wow.
The ZL1 1LE is Chevrolet’s most track-oriented Camaro ever. Starting with the regular ZL1, equipped with a 650-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, the 1LE package adds tricky Multimatic spool-valve dampers and a wildly aggressive aerodynamics package, as well as different rolling stock and other weight-saving measures. Oh, and while the ZL1 can be had with a 10-speed automatic, the 1LE package offers only one transmission: a six-speed manual. For reference, the “regular” ZL1 lap time, the one the 1LE trounced by more than 13 seconds, was set with an automatic.
In addition to beating the normal ZL1’s time, the 1LE got around the ’Ring faster than performance cars like the Nissan GT-R, the Ferrari 488GTB, and the previous-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This thing is wildly quick.
According to Chevrolet, the lap was done on production-spec Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires and was driven by Camaro ride-and-handling engineer Bill Wise.
Don’t forget, the ZL1 1LE starts at just $71,295, meaning the value for performance is off the charts.
