Ford is recalling some 32,000 2016 and 2017 model Edge SUVs and Lincoln MKXs, as well as 2017 Lincoln Continentals, for driver’s-side airbags that may not inflate properly. More than 27,500 are in the United States, with the remainder in Canada.

In a crash, the driver’s airbag might not fully inflate or the cushion might detach from the module, lessening its effectiveness and increasing the risk of injury. To date, however, Ford says no accidents or injuries have been reported.

The airbag modules are supplied by Takata, but this problem is unrelated to the massive Takata airbag recall over defective inflators that can send metal shrapnel into drivers and front-seat passengers, killing or maiming them.

For this recall, Ford will replace the driver’s airbag module.
