Think of a modern Nissan, any Nissan at all—and which one do you think is best suited to the task of drifting, cornering sideways with the rear tires erupting in smoke? If you answered the NV3500 HD cargo van, instead of, say, the Nissan 370Z sports car, you’re a gentleman and a scholar—or perhaps a delivery-van driver. Nissan and Car Throttle took this off-kilter thinking to a crazed conclusion for April Fool’s Day, however, “pranking” pro drifter Chris Forsberg by setting him up for a drift video in a 370Z—only to replace it at the last second with a specially outfitted NV3500 cargo van. The results, predictably, are way better than they’d be if Forsberg had simply drifted the Z.

Set loose on a gymkhana-style course with jumps, break-through walls, and more, Forsberg wheels the NV3500 around with remarkable grace. (Keep in mind, the van is the low-roof model—less tippy!—and had been fitted with a hydraulic handbrake and a locked rear differential.) Almost as good as the van-tastic drift action are the numerous humorous fine print legalese blurbs that flash across the bottom of the video frame. The gems include: “Vehicle modified with hydraulic handbrake and locked differential for the funnies” and “Jumping with NV cargo is strictly prohibited by both the fun police and the real police. Do not attempt.” Anyway, the initial “prank” is pretty much a non-prank (“Hey, here’s a Z—just kidding, here’s a cargo van!”), but the video is worth a look:
