Does putting “Collector Edition” in a car’s name guarantee future collectibility? The better question is whether fitting a car with an eye-searing blue interior help or hurt that cause? Chevrolet, or, more accurately, the buyers of Chevrolet’s 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector Edition will need to wait to find the answer to that query until a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2047. For now, let’s dig into the Collector Edition to see what sets it apart from every other 2017 Corvette Grand Sport.

Announced alongside the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport coupe and convertible at the 2016 Geneva auto show, and representing the Grand Sport lineup on the show stand in Switzerland, the Collector Edition gets the GS-standard upgraded suspension, Z06-derived rear fender flares, Z06-style grille, and other unique features. This is to say the special-edition Vette is more than track-ready. It’s also ready to turn heads, with standard Watkins Glen Gray paint that contrasts beautifully with Tension Blue front fender hash stripes, black wheels, and satin black full-length body stripes. Kudos to Chevrolet for figuring out how to make four distinct colors and two different stripe jobs somehow work. Things are more or less as successful inside the special Corvette, depending on your affinity for the color blue. The mostly black suede–wrapped interior is set off by Tension Blue leather accents on the dashboard, seats, door panels, and center console. To say the effect “pops” would be an understatement; it explodes, enough so to make Michael Bay envious.

Chevrolet says the blue color is a riff on a color “historically associated with the Grand Sport.” Inside, there also are neat little embossed representations of the original Grand Sport race cars on the headrests. And what would a future collectible be without a special dashboard plaque extolling the car’s collectibility? Both European and American buyers will have a chance at owning a Collector Edition later this year, although presently pricing, any caps on production, and option availability have yet to be announced.
