NEW YORK - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif left for home after attending the 69th session of the UN General Assembly where he forcefully projected Pakistan's position on Kashmir and other key regional and international issues.
During his visit, the prime minister also had a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders, including Vice President Joseph Biden on the sidelines of the world's largest diplomatic forum, and discussed advancing Pakistan's international relations.
Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry told journalists that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's address to the General Assembly gave a powerful message of hope, progress and Pakistan's commitment to peace.
The prime minister highlighted the importance of the resolution of the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute as part of his vision for regional peace, which he outlined in unambiguous terms.
Regarding meeting between the prime minister and the US vice president and other leaders, the foreign secretary said the Pakistani leader made it clear that it is India which abruptly called off talks that were to be held in August, and now the onus is on New Delhi to resume the peace process.
