Cong questions delay in action over temple controversy - Times of India

Patna: Terming the incident of temple cleaning at a village in Madhubani district after the chief minister's visit as "shameful", Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) on Monday wondered why CM Jitan Ram Manjhi did not act immediately and took stern action against persons responsible for it soon after learning about such a 'disgraceful' incident.

"I wonder why the CM did not order the SP of Madhubani district to lodge an FIR and take necessary action against the persons who allegedly cleaned the temple mainly because of the visit of a Mahadalit chief minister?" the BPCC spokesperson and former MLC Lal Babu Lal said.

"As per the CM, the incident took place during campaigning by him for the assembly byelection in Rajnagar constituency in the middle of August. But why did Manjhi, despite being the CM and also the minister of home department, remain silent for so long?" Lal asked. He also said Manjhi should now make it clear who stopped him from lodging an FIR in such a sensitive matter.

Taking a slightly different stand, BPCC general secretary Vinod Sharma on Monday said the CM's statement regarding alleged cleaning of temple had come under a cloud after denial by one of his cabinet colleagues. "If the incident of temple cleaning really happened, the CM should have immediately ordered Madhubani SP to arrest the guilty persons. If the incident is not true, as said by his own minister, the CM should avoid making such a controversial statement," Sharma said.

"It has now become almost a regular feature for Manjhi to say something and deny it the next day. The CM should think why his statements always create controversy in the state's political circles," Sharma said.
