Indian Americans thronged Ground Zero, the venue of the 9/11 memorial-cum museum, here on Saturday to express their joy and excitement at getting a glimpse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister began the second day of his five-day visit to the United States by visiting the 9/11 memorial located in the heart of the city.
An avid supporter of Prime Minister Modi who identified himself as Mahesh Patel told ANI, "I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi, whatever work he is doing is good, and I am hopeful that he will do good work for India."
Another supporter described his experience of seeing the Prime Minister in New York and at the memorial as euphoric.
Looking extremely delighted, another supporter said, "It was the best moment of my life. Of course, he will obviously try to bring the country back on track."
Some other supporters also had a wish list before Prime Minister, as they said it will be really good if they were given voting rights in India despite being overseas residents.
During his visit. the Prime Minister offered yellow roses at the memorial while paying tribute to victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. He stayed there for a few minutes before leaving.
Earlier, the Prime Minister waved at the cheering crowd who shouted in a chorus 'Vande Mataram', 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Modi Modi' in a gesture of welcome.
The 9/11 memorial and museum was inaugurated by President Barack Obama in May this year in remembrance of over 3,000 people who had lost their lives in the worst terror attack launched on the United States by Al Qaeda.
Earlier in a meeting with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had discussed the issue of terrorism, and added that India has been consistent in combating the menace for long.
The Prime Minister was extremely keen to understand, following the events of 9/11, how New York City metamorphosed its police force and what were the ways in which it has taken a pro-active stance.
There was also a discussion on the common threats that large cities in India and New York face and the possibilities of cooperation between their anti-terror squads or police forces in the concept of mega city policing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who received a warm welcome upon his arrival in New York on Friday, is later scheduled to address the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.
