Back in 2011, Porsche launched the 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder, a model that, among a certain too-clever cadre of enthusiasts, spawned a number of fictitious Porsche models like the 968 Fuhrmann GTS Clubsport Edition Boxster S and the Cayenne SC 4.0 Weissach RS60 Club Coupe RSR. Zuffenhausen, after all, feels no shame when it comes to piling on the designations. With the new 2018 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series coupe, the company has carried on the tradition, and while not quite at the level of the Edition 918 Spyder’s ridiculousness, the Exclusive Series coupe has an ace up its sleeve—607 thundering Stuttgartian studs are encased within its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six. Until the next GT2 arrives, it stands as the most powerful roadgoing 911 yet sold by the factory.
Porsche touts a 205-mph top speed for this latest King of the Turbos, which is urged onward by 553 lb-ft of torque between 2250 and 4000 rpm. The company claims all that power is good for a zero-to-60-mph leap in a mere 2.8 seconds, but given that we managed to hustle a bog-standard Turbo coupe to 60 in 2.6 and repeated that result in a heavier Turbo S cabriolet, we figure the Exclusive Series could be good for a tenth or two quicker. The juice is routed to the ground via 20-inch center-lock wheels painted black with Golden Yellow Metallic accents to match the bodywork. While Porsche’s top-of-the-line carbon-ceramic rotors handle stopping duty, for the first time, they’re not rendered in yellow. Instead, Porsche has painted them black, adding the company wordmark in body color. Standard performance features include the Sport Chrono package, rear-wheel steering, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control.
If performance is all you’re after, you could schlep your Turbo S to a tuner, request an increase in boost, and undoubtedly save a significant chunk of change over Porsche’s $258,550 ask for the Exclusive Series. But this car is as much about the niceties as it is about the performance. It’s a rolling showcase for stuff Porsche can pack into your automobile. The front trunklid, roof, and side skirts are all crafted from carbon fiber, the first two body parts showcased by stripey voids in the 911’s paint. Out back, the wing comes from the Turbo Aerokit, and the Exclusive Series gets a fresh rear fascia.
Inside, the Turbo S Exclusive Series coupe features 18-way adjustable sport seats covered in perforated leather with inlaid Golden Yellow stripes. The microsuede headliner also features yellow stripes, while copper thread is integrated into the carbon-fiber interior trim. As only 500 will be made, a plate calling out the car’s number in the series is practically mandatory, as are carbon-fiber sill plates bearing light-up Exclusive Series lettering.
If, however, all of this fails to broadcast your exact degree specialness to 911 Turbo–driving orthodontists, you might want to spring for some accessories. Porsche is offering a set of matching fitted luggage, including two weekender bags, a handbag, and a garment carrier, all detailed to match your 911 and for the low price of $6324 if a buyer chooses to take delivery of the car at the factory. But if you feel a bit goofy carrying around a garment bag just to show the world you sprung for an Exclusive Series car, Porsche Design offers a titanium chronograph featuring a carbon-fiber dial finished in your chosen paint color. What, you thought they were only going to sell the Exclusive Series in School Bus Metallic? Agate Grey and Carrara White also are offered, plus Black, Guards Red, and Graphite Blue are available at an upcharge. And if you ask nicely and are prepared to part with even more coin, we’re sure Porsche will spray your new super-Turbo any color you please. Such are the perks of Exclusivity.
