Last year, Fiat heir Lapo Elkann’s Garage Italia Customs created an i3 and an i8 with fancy patterned paint jobs, but now, Elkann has really outdone himself. For a furniture show in Milan (seriously), Elkann and Garage Italia created an i3 and i8 that pay tribute to 1980s furniture maker Memphis Style. The cars are fantastic.
You wouldn’t necessarily think that a wild 1980s color palette would work on futuristic cars like the i3 and i8, but somehow, it fits beautifully. The interiors, with their mix of colorful leather and microsuede, are especially great. Bring back striped seats.
In a press release, BMW said it took Garage Italia five weeks to conceive and paint the two cars, and in some places, there are eight layers of paint. You won’t be able to walk into a BMW dealer and order a car like this, but take your car to Garage Italia, and the artists there will do it for you.
Honestly, we don’t have much more to say about these. Just enjoy the pictures.
