The term “red art” might bring to mind Soviet-era propaganda posters, but Mercedes-Benz is peddling something far more capitalist-friendly with its recently announced SLC-class RedArt roadsters.
Available for both the SLC300 with its 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and the AMG-fortified SLC43 powered by a 362-hp twin-turbo V-6, the RedArt treatment brings a host of red-tinged visuals to the two-seat convertibles. The RedArt Edition of the SLC300 includes red accents on the grille, front fascia, front fender gills, rear diffuser, and brake calipers. The latter are visible through special 18-inch five-spoke wheels. Inside, there’s red contrast stitching, available two-tone black and red leather, red seatbelts, and a checkered-flag design on the instrument cluster. Iridium Silver matte finish is a RedArt–exclusive hue, but six other colors also are available.
For the SLC43, RedArt is an option package, and it again includes red exterior touches (on the front splitter, front and rear fascias, and air-intake trim), red brake calipers, and 10-spoke 18-inch wheels finished in black with a red flange. The SLC43 interior gets its share of red trim elements, nappa leather with an embossed AMG logo on the shift lever, red striping on the center console and door panels, aluminum trim with a dark carbon grain, and black and silver two-tone leather or leather-and-microsuede upholstery. Iridium Silver Magno and Selenite Gray Magno are the special RedArt colors for the SLC43, but here again, another half-dozen choices are available.
The red-tinged roadsters will be available this spring, with pricing announced closer to the on-sale date. Better get a move on, comrade.
