We have yet to get our hands on a Ford GT to put it through testing, but the official manufacturer information thus far has us palms up waiting for somebody to toss us the keys. Ford says the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 will make 647 horsepower at 6250 rpm and a maximum 550 lb-ft of torque at 5900 rpm, and claims that’ll be enough to push the aero-optimized supercar to a top speed of 216 mph. One thing that hasn’t been announced is the weight, but Ford jumped ahead of itself today by announcing a Competition Series package for the GT, a trim that reduces mass and makes the car even more track focused. The Competition Series GT has a claimed dry weight of 3054 pounds.

The changes to the GT aim not only to lower weight but to also lower where the weight is in the car, to create a lower center of gravity. The engine remains the same, so this is all about staying more planted on the track. The biggest alterations on the Competition Series are a race-inspired Perspex acrylic engine hatch cover with a manual latch and a carbon-fiber prop; a bulkhead with half-as-thick glass behind the driver; and the removal of the air conditioning, radio and speakers, storage bins, and cupholders. Previously optional weight-saving features are standard for the Competition Series, including a titanium exhaust system with unique titanium tips and gloss carbon-fiber wheels with titanium lug nuts.

Separating the Competition Series even further are the visuals. On the outside, it has exposed gloss carbon-fiber lower body skirts, mirror caps, and A-pillars and an exposed carbon-fiber stripe running over the top of the car. Paint options include Shadow Black, Frozen White, Ingot Silver, Liquid Blue, Liquid Gray, and Triple Yellow. Inside, it uses exposed carbon fiber for the console, the air register vents, and the doorsills. It also has anodized red paddle shifters, an anodized red instrument panel chassis bridge, a red pedal adjustment, and a red emergency door-release pull strap. Ford made the bezels, finishers, and seat X-brace matte dark stainless, and a specific instrument panel and steering-wheel bezel add the finishing touches.

This choice has been available to customers from the beginning of GT ordering, but Ford is still being tight with more details. The company would not say how much lighter the Competition Series is than the base GT, and it would not talk about the price difference. Anybody out here with one on order want to fill in the blanks?
