Last month we heard a rumor that a refreshed Porsche Cayman GT4 is coming, equipped with a sizable turbocharged 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine to keep up with the new turbocharged 718 models. Now, it seems a Porsche dealer in Australia is corroborating that rumor, according to a post on its Instagram account suggesting the existence of a 4.0-liter GT4 “RS.”
This weekend, the Australian website CarAdvice posted an intriguing item related to the Porsche Cayman GT4. It displayed a post—which has since been deleted—from Porsche Centre of Brisbane’s Instagram account with a picture of what looks to be a current GT4 and the caption, “Due to high demand, a GT4 RS is on its way—with more power and a 4.0L flat-six engine, this limited model will turn heads.”
This post lines up with what has been reported earlier regarding the updated GT4, but it could have just have easily been an impatient dealer looking to strum up some hype for a model that may not even exist.
There is, however, some precedent here. The RS in Porsche GT car nomenclature has been used in the past to symbolize an even greater focus on trackworthiness—so it could be the same for the GT4.
With the Geneva auto show coming next month, we may soon know more.
