Couldn’t make it to France for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race? Or you did and weren’t, you know, an actual member of Ford’s race team? You’re in luck!
Whether you’re seeking an in-the-pits experience or what it was like to be inside one of the contesting GTs, Ford has released a virtual-reality app that takes you inside its (class-winning!) Le Mans effort this year—and up close and personal with its GT race cars and racing team. For the tl;dr crowd, there’s also a YouTube version that allows the user to “look” around in 360 degrees, which we’ve embedded here.
The app takes you on a guided journey through Ford’s return to Le Mans, and is narrated by driver Joey Hand, one of the three winning GT drivers. We suggest you download it immediately, if not for the awesome tech involved, then for the peek behind the curtain at Le Mans that only the hardest-to-attain credentials could get you in real life. The app is available for download in the iTunes store or Google Play store for Android users, while the YouTube version can be fiddled with below:
