Earlier this month, Volkswagen announced that as part of a “goodwill” campaign it was offering owners of its noncompliant TDI models a $500 Visa gift card plus another $500 in credit to spend on Volkswagen products and services. Audi A3 TDI owners, whose cars have the same emissions-cheating software, at that point might have asked, “What about me?” Now, Audi says, they’ll be getting they same deal.
The Audi offers mirrors the Volkswagen one: a $500 Visa gift card and a $500 Audi Dealership Card, plus three years of free roadside assistance. Owners have to go the dealership to collect their prizes.
As at Volkswagen, the offer only is for owners of cars powered by the 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder. Those with the 3.0-liter V-6 TDI can only look on enviously. This even though the EPA is now accusing Audi’s 3.0-liter V-6 TDI—in the 2016 Audi A6, A7, A8, A8L, and Q5 TDI models—of having similar emissions-defeating software. Audi has issued a stop-sale on those V-6 diesels, as well, in addition to the 2.0-liter cars. Owners can check their vehicle’s eligibility at this website.
