After being leaked onto a semi-broken Ford website a few months ago, official pricing for the 2016 Focus RS hot hatch is out. The unexciting news? The official pricing is exactly the same as the unofficial, sorta-leaked pricing from July, $36,605. The exciting news is that Ford has also revealed what it thinks the new RS can do in the zero-to-60 and top-speed contests.
According to Ford, the 345-hp Focus RS can launch to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 165 mph. Both figures seem about right for a car of this size with that much power; after all, just look to the 355-hp Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, which hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds in our testing. That car has a dual-clutch automatic transmission and launch control, while the Focus has launch control but could prove trickier to launch with its six-speed manual (which is perfectly fine by us).
Are we still excited for the Focus RS’s arrival? Absolutely, and with pricing out we can now officially declare that the Ford will cost almost exactly the same as its direct rival, the 292-hp, $36,470 Volkswagen Golf R. That translates to $135 for an extra 53 horsepower, not to mention the Ford’s more insane oversteer abilities.
