You can’t buy a new Volkswagen with the 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine right now, as the company has issued a stop-sale for its four-cylinder diesels. This comes in response to the EPA having caught VW apparently cheating on the cars’ emissions tests. The models subject to the stop-sale are the 2015 Jetta, Beetle, Golf, and Passat TDI, as well as the Audi A3 TDI.

Over the weekend, Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn issued a statement that said in part, “I personally am deeply sorry that we have broken the trust of our customers and the public.” Winterkorn also said the company “will cooperate fully” with the authorities and that it has ordered its own external investigation into the matter. “We do not and will not tolerate violations of any kind of internal rules or the law,” he added.

The cars said to be in violation of EPA emissions standards are 2009–2015 TDI-equipped VW Golf, Beetle, Jetta, and Audi A3 models, and the 2014 and 2015 Passat TDI. Those cars have not yet been recalled, and the company says they are safe to drive.
