Lest anyone interpret the recently unveiled-for-Pebble Beach “Mauvine Blue” McLaren 570S as a signal that the maker has begun to lose its thirst for blood, it has redeemed itself—and then some—with a video of several 570S Sports Series models undergoing testing.
Gone is the Barney-hued exterior finish, these cars instead wearing basic black, orange, and geometric camouflage patterns to go about the very serious business of demolishing apexes and melting tires. Said to be in the final stage before full production, the video demonstrates the 570S in both summer and winter environs, dancing to a soundtrack that sounds as if it were ripped from an uncompleted Tangerine Dream project.
According to McLaren, the 570S has completed more than 310,000 miles of testing on mixture of race circuits and public roads. To ensure the 570S was capable of almost any weather extreme, McLaren subjected it to winter cold of Northern Sweden and the summer heat of Arizona and Nevada, as well as the fickle British weather typical of McLaren’s Production Center in Woking. Deliveries of the well-tested 570S are scheduled to begin before the end of the year.
