1972 AMC Gremlin XR

If you were around in the 1970s and paid attention to cars, there’s no doubt you saw AMC Gremlins pretty much everywhere—except examples like this 1972 AMC Gremlin XR.

The Gremlin XR was a dealer-built model backed by AMC. What made it so special was its 401-cubic-inch V-8 engine, a feature that made it one of the fastest cars available for the money. With a base price of less than $4000, the XR could be optioned with any number of AMC performance parts which would allow it to achieve quarter-mile times in the low-13 to high-12-second range right out of the box. Sold exclusively at Randall AMC in Arizona, fewer than 25 examples were built.

The seller claims this Gremlin XR has a shockingly-low 7838 miles on the clock and, despite its semi-busticated appearance, is straight and rust-free. The big head scratcher here however is the lofty $60K asking price. While we can certainly understand the appeal of such a rare car, we’re not sure if anyone in the small but dedicated Gremlin community is quite ready to cut such a big check. You can check out the car on eBay right here.
