NEW DELHI: Government will introduce Bills, including the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Coal Mining (Special Provisions) Bill, in the Lok Sabha this week to replace Ordinances promulgated earlier even as it holds talks with allies like Shiv Sena and LJP as well as some opposition parties to get their support on Land Bill.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2014- both of which were introduced in this session- have already been listed for consideration on March 2, 2015 in the Lok Sabha. The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015 have been listed for introduction on Monday while the Bill to replace the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Ordinance has been listed for introduction in the Lower House on March 3.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, introduced in Lok Sabha last week, will be taken up once the less contentious Bills seeking to replace the Ordinances are passed, sources said. Meanwhile, government has pressed its ministers into service to convince allies and opposition parties-other than the Congress and the Left- to give up their opposition on the Land Acquisition Bill.

Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari met Shiv Sena Chief Udhav Thackeray on Friday to convince him about the need for passing the Land Bill and dispel apprehensions that the legislation is anti-farmer. Shiv Sena sources said Gadkari has been apprised of the points on which the party has differences with the Bill. "Shiv Sena MPs will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi either on Monday or Tuesday to give a memorandum on why the Land Bill in its present form should not be passed as it would harm the interest of the farmers and the small land holders," a Shiv Sena MP told ET.

Rajnath Singh is holding talks with farmers groups and bodies representing the interests of these sections including the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Swadeshi Jagran Manch.
