Raising questions over the way Aam Aadmi Party decided to replace its internal Lokpal Admiral (retd) Ramdas with a new panel at an emergency National Executive(NE) meeting, party's NE member Rakesh Sinha has alleged that he wasn't informed about the meeting in which the decision was taken.
A day after party's NE decided to replace Ramdas as the internal Lokpal along with removing dissident leader Prashant Bhushan from party's disciplinary committee, Sinha shot off a letter to party's national secretary Pankaj Gupta raising objections to the way decisions were taken at Sunday's meeting.
"I find that some very important decisions have been taken in a hurry. The issue I feel most uneasy about is the treatment we have given to our outgoing Lokpal. While appointment of new Lokpal was indeed due I wonder if our outgoing Lokpal was given adequate opportunity to name his successor as envisaged in our rules," Sinha said in the letter on Monday.
NOT INFORMED
Sinha, who alleged that he wasn't informed about the emergency meeting, said he only came to know about the meeting through media. "I would like to bring to your notice that I came to know about this meeting through some journalists who called to ask me if I was attending the NE meeting. Your SMS saying that it was an emergency meeting is well taken but it still does not explain why I was not informed," he said.
Alleging that Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav were expelled from the NE without a Lokpal inquiry into the allegations of anti-party activities against them, Sinha said it was decided at an NE meeting on March 4 that charges against them will be referred to the internal Lokpal.
"I would also like to remind you that in the NE meeting of 4th March in which decision was taken to remove Mr Prashant Bhushan and Mr Yogendra Yadav from PAC, it was also decided that charges against them will be referred to our Internal Lokpal who had also expressed his intention to investigate these. Unfortunately, no action was taken on this NE decision and the two were removed from the NE on the same uninvestigated and hence unsubstantiated charges," he said.
However, party national secretary Pankaj Gupta said, "I had texted him about the emergency meeting at around 11 pm on Saturday night. I have the text with me. He only called me next morning at around 11.45 am saying he is getting to know about the meeting through the media," Gupta said.
LETTER MADE PUBLIC
He said calling an emergency meeting was according to party's constitution and the quorum for the meeting was full. "Emergency meetings are called because there are some emergency decisions to be taken," he said. On the issue of Lokpal investigation against Yadav and Bhushan, Gupta said, "It was not said that Ramdas will investigate it. Whosoever is the Lokpal can take up inquiries referred to the Lokpal panel," he said.
