As discovered by MotorAuthority, when you select the Ford GT in the video game, you’re presented with a spec sheet that seemingly spills all the beans: 630 horses, 539 lb-ft of torque, and a 2890-pound curb weight with a 43/57 front-rear distribution. That jibes with Ford’s promises of “over 600 horsepower” but puts it slightly behind the 661-hp Ferrari 488GTB and the 641-hp McLaren 650S. Hell, even the Corvette Z06, with 650 horses and an equal measure of torque, seems to outmuscle the GT, despite the Vette’s sub-$100,000 price, which is less than one quarter of the GT’s rumored MSRP. Then again, that sub-3000-pound curb weight, if it’s legitimate, could handily make up the power difference.
Now, it’s worth taking the Forza Motorsport 6 numbers with a grain of salt. Ford hasn’t officially said anything about the car’s power output, and as realistic as racing games have become, they’re still just digital approximations. That said, Ford and Forza have been working hand-in-hand on this new edition of the racing game, and the GT has been the simulator’s halo car since it was first unveiled at the Detroit auto show in early 2015.
For most of us, the point is moot—given that Ford has said the carbon fiber supercar will be produced in volumes that are “hundreds, rather than thousands,” Forza Motorsport 6 is probably the closest most of us will ever get to driving the thing.
