The news about the 94-year-old cartoonist came around 7pm from a private hospital in Pune, where he was admitted on January 17.
Laxman, brother of late novelist RK Narayan, is survived by writer wife Kamala, retired journalist son Srinivas and daughter-in-law Usha.

His condition had worsened last Sunday following which he was put on ventilator support at Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital.

The 94-year-old Laxman is famous for his 'You Said It' pocket cartoon in TOI featuring the much-loved 'common man'.
Laxman had other underlying medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension. He had suffered a stroke some years ago," said surgeon Dhananjay Kelkar, medical director of Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital.

RK Laxman was born in Mysore. His father was a headmaster and Laxman was the youngest of six sons. His older brother is the famous novelist RK Narayan.
