A day after senior leader and AAP founder member Shanti Bhushan praised the BJP for choosing Kiran Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate, he snubbed Bedi by refusing a request to meet her. “I have no reason to meet her,” he said.
On Friday, Bedi thanked Bhushan for his praise and said she had sent an SMS to Bhushan asking him if she could meet him. “My office has sent him a message requesting him to give me time for a personal meeting. I want to meet him. Whenever he calls me, I will go to meet him,” she told reporters.
Bhushan Sr, however, maintained that he had not received any request from Bedi. “I have received no such request. I am not going to meet her,” Bhushan told Newsline.
Refuting reports that Bedi had asked him to join the BJP, Bhushan further said, “There is no question of my joining the BJP. I belong to the AAP and I will not join the BJP. Moreover, no such request has been made. Knowing my association with the AAP, no one will have the courage to ask me to join the BJP.”
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh also reiterated Bhushan’s stand on Bedi. Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, Singh said, “Shanti Bhushan has said he will never be separated from the AAP. While he has praised her, his opinion about the BJP has not changed. He has refused to meet her.”
On Thursday, while praising Bedi, Bhushan had said that fielding her as the CM candidate was a “master stroke” by the BJP. He said,”If Arvind had strayed from his path, then Bedi would be the better choice for chief minister.”
Praising the BJP for inducting a senior India Against Corruption member in its ranks, Bhushan had said,”even the BJP has realised that they need a person who has fought against corruption”.
