There’s something to be said for being first. First in line, first out of the gate, first on your block to get the new 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe. But once your copycat neighbors get their own C63 coupe, how will people be able to tell that you got yours first? Best to preserve that me-first feeling by getting the special Edition 1 version.
As Mercedes has done with several other recent AMG entries, the first deliveries of the new C63 coupe will be of limited-production Edition 1 models. The special trim package will be offered in two versions, milder or wilder, and on either the standard, 469-hp C63 or the 503-hp S model (both now rocking a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 in place of the outgoing model’s naturally aspirated 6.2-liter big boy).
The milder version brings matte graphite-gray sport stripes (any body color is available); the AMG Aerodynamics Package (unique front spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser, and trunk lip spoiler, all done in gloss black); the AMG Night Package (silver chrome grille, chrome-plated dual exhaust tips, dark tinted glass, and more gloss-black trim); special matte-black wheels; and yellow contrast stitching on the AMG Performance seats, microfiber-wrapped steering wheel, and elsewhere in the cabin.
The wilder version is available only on the S model. In addition to the aforementioned items, it turns up the visual wattage with yellow accents on its larger, 19-/20-inch wheels and yellow stripes on the hood, roof, trunk lid, and lower body sides. It’s available exclusively in matte gray. It also adds higher-performance tires and the C63’s optional ceramic high-performance-compound braking system.
Even those first in line for the C63 coupe will have a bit of waiting to do, as the model isn’t due to arrive until next August. Pricing is expected to be in the low $70Ks for the C63 and low $80Ks for the S. What the premium will be for the Edition 1 packages is not yet known, but for a certain AMG buyers, it probably won’t matter.
