Add another model to the ever-increasing roster of vehicles being recalled for potentially dangerous Takata airbags: Automotive News reports that the 2008-2010 Dodge Challenger is being recalled to fix the driver’s airbag, manufactured by Takata.

In all, 88,346 Challengers built between September 2007 and October 2010 are affected by the recall, according to the NHTSA. The newly added Challengers did not appear on parent company FCA’s original list of Takata airbag-equipped vehicles, submitted to the NHTSA in May.

The airbags have been found to contain a propellant that can degrade due to moisture exposure, causing excessively forceful deployment that can make the airbag self-destruct and shoot shrapnel into the passenger compartment in an impact. Eight deaths and hundreds of injuries have been traced to the Takata airbags reaching back more than a decade.

FCA says the additional Dodge Challengers were “inadvertently excluded” from the original recall, and were discovered in an audit on July 6th.

Meanwhile in the unfolding Takata saga, the beleaguered airbag supplier made the bold decision to deny U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal’s request to set up a victim’s compensation fund to distribute monetary awards to the families of those injured or killed by the defective airbags. Blumenthal called Takata’s decision “a callous misjudgment,” Automotive News reports.
