Kolkata: Reacting on Tapas Pal's controversial rape remark, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that the Trinamool Congress leader had committed a big blunder and that he had apologised under her instructions.

She also said that the party condemned Pal's comments and that he had been cautioned for making the insensitive remarks.

A the same time Mamata reportedly told media persons, when asked as to what action would be taken against Pal, that she could not kill him for what he had said.

The official Twitter account of TMC also posted West Bengal CM's reactions on Pal's comments.

Pal apologised today for his for his controversial 'rape remark' saying that his comment was a 'gross error of judgement and deeply insensitive'.

In his letter marked to chairperson, AITC and the media among others, Pal said that he had let down his constituents and the people of Bengal. “I have let down my party, the Trinamool Congress, and my political colleagues, I have let down my family, including my wife and children and my parents, and my friends. I apologise to all of them,” he said.

He further wrote that his apology was particularly to “all women in our society and to those in the media who highlighted the issue.”

In a video which was aired by various television channels yesterday, Pal was heard openly threatening to send 'his boys' and get women of Opposition party raped. He was also heard saying that if need be he would not hesitate to use guns against his opponents.

“If anyone from the Opposition dares to touch any woman then I will send my boys and get women of CPI(M) raped,” Pal told a gathering reportedly in his constituency Krishnanagar.

He also said that he roamed around with 'maal' (revolver) and would not hesitate to use it on his opponents.

Pal went further and among other things boasted that he is a 'goonda' (hooligan).

The speech shown in the video is apparently six to seven weeks old.

Meanwhile, describing the speech of Pal as "shocking and obnoxious", the CPI(M) today demanded that Parliament should act against him and that cases be filed for criminal intimidation and incitement of violence.

"The speech of the Trinamool Congress MP, Tapas Pal, inciting violence and rape against CPI(M) workers and women is shocking and obnoxious. He threatened murder, destruction of homes of CPI(M) men and to send his boys to rape women there," the CPI(M) politburo said in a statement, PTI reported.

Also, Pal's controversial comments rocked the West Bengal Assembly today with Congress staging a walk-out after the Speaker disallowed its adjournment motion demanding CM Mamata Banerjee's statement and the MP's immediate arrest.

Immediately after the Question Hour, Speaker Biman Banerjee took up the adjournment motion and disallowed it.
