KANPUR: After a month-long fasting, the Muslims will celebrate the Eid festival on Tuesday. A large number of people will go to Eidgahs to offer special namaz in the morning. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of Ramzan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The arrangements made at Eidgahs for offering Eid prayers got spoiled by heavy rains which lashed the city on Monday evening.

A large number of Muslims, including women and children were seen doing last minute for the festival in Chamanganj, Beconganj, Chowk, Shivala, Naveen Market and P.Road areas of the city. Not only shops selling garments and sweets were full of buyers, there was a huge rush at the shops selling

siwain, leather items, bangles, clothes etc.

After sighting of Eid moon on Monday, the people started extending Eid greetings to their relatives, family members, friends and neighbours. Sheeba, a resident of Baqarganj said, " Eid is a festival of joy, love and brotherhood. It is a time to shower our blessings on our family members and friends and forgive our opponents.

She said that she would be preparing 'sheer khurma' 'lachchhas and Banarasi siwain for her friends and neighbours. These delicacies are quite tasty because dry fruits and chopped dates and coconut are used in their preparation. Meanwhile, the city administration has imposed traffic diversions and barricaded areas near mosques to enable people to offer Eid prayers.
