Two former chief ministers of Bihat - JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and RJD president Lalu Prasad - will be campaigning together for the upcoming by-elections for 10 assembly seats after a ong gap of 24 years.

Bihar JD(U) president Bashishtha Narayan Singh has said that the two will campaign together for the bypoll.

Singh also claimed that the alliance would perform exceedingly well in the assembly bypoll since the BJP-led government at the Centre was fast losing its appeal with people over inflation and rail fare hike.

The bypolls would be held for Chapra, Rajnagar (SC), Mohiuddinagar, Banka, Hajipur, Mohania (SC), Jale, Parbatta, Narkatiaganj and Bhagalpur on August 21.

BJP would contest nine assembly seats with one seat going to LJP, an alliance partner, party sources said.

BJP claims JD(U) headed for a split, says Manjhi

"Both the incumbent chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and his predecessor Nitish Kumar are speaking in contradictory voices and so are some ministers owing allegiance to the two leaders, giving an impression that the JD(U) is headed for a split," former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said.
