Tricked and treated Hyundais are not uncommon at the annual SEMA show, and this year is no exception. One of the coolest Hyundais gracing the 2015 SEMA show floor is perhaps the baddest-ass Veloster ever (except maybe for this one), and was created by Chicago’s Blood Type Racing, the same group that brought us the insane BTR Genesis coupe last year, which made 800 horsepower at the wheels.

Starting with the Veloster Turbo R-Spec, which is powered by a 201-hp, 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder, the folks at Blood Type Racing swapped in new cylinder sleeves, a very high-boost Garrett turbocharger, custom connecting rods and pistons, among other things, resulting in more than 500 horsepower. Yes, from 1.6 liters.

Since the Veloster styling wasn’t busy enough to begin with, BTR widened the fenders with a carbon fiber wide-body kit, slapped on a full skirt of spoilers and valances, and hung a huge rear wing off the roof. BC racing coilovers snug the body down on a set of SSR Professor 19X9.5-inch wheels wrapped by Toyo rubber, while under the skin, Pierce Motorsports body braces and torsion bars help hold the whole thing together. Oh yeah, and don’t forget the fat red racing stripe, which ties in many of the design details, decals, and gnarliest of all, red “demon eye” headlamps.

As with many SEMA customs, the BTR Veloster interior is basically seats, gauges, and speakers, plus a roll cage in this case—a good thing, since this is the kind of car that promises to get into some measure of trouble.

Want to drive it? For most of us, the closest we’ll get is a virtual simulation courtesy of the Racing Rivals video game for IOS and Android, where both the BTR Veloster Turbo and the BTR Genesis coupe are featured.
