Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani Goa Police are likely to quiz senior executives of Fabindia on Saturday, a day after four staff members of one of its outlet in the state were arrested following a complaint by Union Minister Smriti Irani about a clandestine CCTV recording inside a women's trial room.
The HRD minister had on Friday alleged that a camera was positioned to secretly record the activities inside the trial room of a Fabindia outlet in north Goa.
She was trying out clothes in the room when members of her entourage noticed the camera discreetly pointed towards the dressing room and raised a hue and cry.
The store is located near the upmarket beach resort village of Calangute.
According to NDTV, the police have sent summons to Fabindia CEO William Bissel and another top executive for their questioning in the case.
"Fabindia is deeply concerned and shocked at this allegation. We are in the process of investigating this internally and will be cooperating fully with the police," the website of the TV channel quoted the quoted the company as saying.
"Senior officials of the company are on their way to Goa and will be present during the investigation," the company said.
The arrested persons are Paresh Bhagat, Raju Payanche, Prashant Naik and Karim Lakhani. They were booked for voyeurism, intrusion into privacy and other charges.
The report further quoted Goa Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar as saying that Goa Congress has demanded immediate sealing of all Fabindia outlets in the country.
"What happened at Fabindia is shameful and shocking to all of us, the state governments all over the country should immediately seal all Fabindia outlets in the country and carry out a thorough inspection," he was quoted as saying.
Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Umesh Gaonkar said that they have sealed the store and investigations are on.
Irani has also recorded her statement with the Calangute police station.
