After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Ramlila Maidan earlier this month failed to pull the crowds as expected, the Delhi BJP is scheduling four more rallies for the PM ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
At a Election Management Committee meeting, held at the state office on Pandit Pant Marg on Friday, it was decided that the rallies would be held tentatively on January 31, February 1, 3 and 4 in East, North, West and South Delhi parliamentary constituencies, respectively. However, sources said a final schedule would be ready in the next day or two.
At the meeting it was decided that 70 leaders, including MPs and ministers from state assemblies, will handle “ground zero” till counting on February 10. Around 56 MPs will be deputed to coordinate with workers, arrange public meetings and padyatras for the candidates.
According to sources, the leaders include Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda, MoS (independent charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, MoS for Agriculture and Food Processing Sanjeev Baliyan, Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
The seven Delhi MPs, who are part of the committee, were missing from the meeting. While they claimed that they “did not know” of it, a party spokesperson said, “The MPs were busy with work in their constituencies.”
